Cody Dorman Passes a Day After His BFF Cody’s Wish Wins

Little Cody touched us all in many ways, let’s keep his spirt alive by donating so another little boy or girl can have their wish come true.

Make-A-Wish For Cody

Cody Dorman, whose relationship with the horse who bears his namesake was an inspiration to the country, died while flying from Los Angeles to Kentucky the day after Cody’s Wish won his second Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. He was a month shy of his 18th birthday.

Cody and his family were celebrating Cody’s 18th birthday a month early when they came to Santa Anita Park to see his BFF run in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. During this special event, the horse, who was running his last race, won by a nose and also had to endure a five-minute inquiry after there was bumping between him and National Treasure down the stretch. As they waited in suspense, Cody was down in the winner’s circle, a place he had frequented on several other occasions.

“We are heartbroken to share the news that our beloved Cody suffered a medical event on our trip home to Kentucky [Sunday] and he has passed away,” Kelly and Leslie Dorman, Cody’s parents, said in a statement. Cody was born with Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome, a genetic disorder that can leave a person without the ability to walk or communicate. He was not expected to live past the age of 2. He nearly made it to adulthood.

The Bond Was Real

Dorman’s remarkable journey with the horse began several years ago, following a heartwarming encounter during Make-A-Wish Day at Keeneland. Cody, along with his family, received a heartfelt invitation to Godolphin’s Gainsborough Farm in Versailles. It was there that they met a striking, brown colt that would forever change their lives. Over time, an extraordinary bond formed between Cody and the colt, a bond so profound that the farm decided to christen the horse ‘Cody’s Wish’ in honor of their unbreakable connection. Since then, this remarkable relationship has continued to flourish and inspire all who witness it.

Cody’s Wish finished his career with 11 wins in 16 starts, including 7 graded stakes victories.
